Summary:
On April 10, IT Home cited Korean media Busan Daily as reporting that Qualcomm is shifting next-generation mobile AP (application processor) manufacturing to TSMC, due to Samsung’s 2nm process failing to meet yield requirements for mass production.
Samsung’s 2nm process currently has a yield rate below the required 60% for commercial production, whereas TSMC has achieved 60-70% yield. If Samsung misses Qualcomm’s advanced AP order again, its foundry business recovery will be hampered, as low capacity utilization for cutting-edge processes would reduce profitability.
Additionally, IT Home noted that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has a Samsung代工 version (SM8850S), though it has not been adopted by any manufacturer, including Samsung.
